Three leaders from our group, plus two borrowed from neighbouring groups. Because when you ask for help in our Scout district, you actually get it. Together we showed the kids how to paddle a canoe safely.

Then the canoe trailer had to go home.

We’d brought along a slightly cheeky leader from a neighbouring group. He started teasing me because I was about to get one of the dads to drive the trailer back. “I can’t reverse with a trailer, you see.” I usually say I have people for that.

“I’ll show you how,” he said. But I had to do it myself. Learning by doing.

I was really unsure. I’ve had my driving licence for almost 25 years, and I had never once pulled this off. Reverse with a trailer? No. Reverse with a canoe trailer? No, no… well… yes. Yep. Because with A LOT of guidance, I actually backed that canoe trailer neatly into place. Right next to the other one.

So I’ve decided to take it on as the Challenge for Scout leaders. You set yourself a personal goal and work on it for at least four months. My goal is to learn to reverse with a canoe trailer. Properly, without anyone talking me through it. On my own. By the district assembly in March, I’ll be able to do it.

And since I know I follow through when I say things out loud, I’m saying it to you now.

I went to Iceland in 2004 because I had always dreamed of going to Iceland.

I had been single for about a year, and I went on a scout trip with a group of Norwegian scouts. My plan was to join in and do everything I wanted, without thinking about anything except the here and now. Spend my own money on what I wanted for once.

I felt childish and playful and a little small. Terrified and experienced, perhaps.

And I succeeded quite well.

I spent most of my money in Iceland. Icelandic jumpers, souvenirs and experiences. I experienced nature that was quite extreme. And met people I still talk to.

I also had a lot of holiday that summer because I’d had a shit summer the year before. I had spent it in a basement in Copenhagen, programming a web portal that never went live. And my full summer vacation was moved to the year 2004.

When we came home from Iceland, I was happy and broke.

Then one of the people I had been to Iceland with told me about another scout camp. So I just joined and went on impulse.

Three weeks. One week before the camp and one week after.

It was almost impossible to spend money there, which was perfect since I had spent most of what I had in Iceland.

I arrived at the camp and said:

I can contribute. Give me something.

I was given responsibility for the rover programme. I took it on immediately and thought it was great fun. Zero planning before I got there.

I lived in a tent with two other lovely women. We came up with a lot of fun things. We arranged speed dating for rovers in a lavvu, with music and sheepskins and everything.

During the day, of all things, felting wool became one of the activities. I still don’t remember why. It was simply go with the flow. I used what I knew about programmes and scouts and joined whatever was happening.

I met lots of lovely people I still know today.

And most importantly, I met Per Øyvind.

It is the best thing that has happened in my entire life.

Even though the whole concept of being happy-go-lucky brings up a lot, a lot of resistance.

I was there without a plan, without a mission and without any ambition to achieve anything at all. It was just fun to contribute with whatever the camp needed.

And it led to the best thing that has actually happened in my whole life. I got a partner who is the most perfect person I could be with.

What I have just realised is that one of the few times I have really managed to go with the flow, to go happy-go-lucky, I won the absolute biggest thing in my life.

It is actually quite incredible. It makes me want to do more of it.

I love this part — meeting people, planning things, making things happen, at work and in scouting and on every committee I’ve ever ended up on. The part I put off for as long as humanly possible is the one that comes after: someone has to write down what we agreed on. And when I haven’t had the sense to delegate it, that someone is me.

So I started using AI for it. But not the way you’d think.

A normal AI summary looks more or less the same every time: a grey wall of text, neatly arranged, bullet points, bold in the right places, a few too many emojis — and completely forgotten two days later. Everything’s in there. Nothing stays.

I wanted something else.

So I got the AI to hand me a map instead. A drawing: arrows, lines, meaning running across the page.

A list is points in a row, each on its own, all weighted the same.

A map isn’t. Things have a place — something in the centre, something small in a bottom left corner, lines between the parts that belong together. Your brain takes it in all at once: what weighs most, what connects, what’s moving.

I remember it because I can see where it sat, not because I read it. And when I come back to something weeks later, I don’t read the minutes. I see the whole meeting in a single glance.

The people I’ve shown them to want them. I’ve shared a few — after meetings, or as summaries of projects I’m in the middle of — and the same question comes back every time: how did you make that?

So now I’ll show you.

I worked on client follow-ups and marketing. And what happened was almost strange. Annoyingly simple.

Because we were sitting there together, we worked. Properly. For hours. Concentrated, deep work, where things actually got done. I crossed off things I’d been postponing for ages — small things that had grown into elephants. The little email I should have sent. The offer copy I should have been working on. And actually got onto a website. Stuff I should have done a long time ago. We didn’t have a meeting. We didn’t disturb each other. We sat next to each other in silence.

Because we were there together, we got a lot done. For me, it was probably one of the most productive days of the year. The company kept us accountable for actually sitting and working. Not in a strict way. Not with pressure. But I couldn’t just wander around the house finding other things to do, while she was there.

When you work for yourself, there’s often nobody really waiting for you to finish.

Nobody asks if you sent the thing. Nobody is sitting next to you checking how far you’ve gotten. Or checking that you’ve started your day. And so the small things stay undone.

I’d happily invite more people into my office, regularly. But there isn’t room for many here. And the cat, Mr. Jansson, claims one of the chairs is his.

So I’m opening a Zoom room on Fridays instead.

This morning I got an email from a coach I follow. She described the stress of a busy day — too many open tabs in her head, heart beating too fast. Then she meditated for twenty minutes, and everything melted away. Her body went soft. She felt light. Reset.

She wanted me to know I could have that too.

And I read it thinking:

that would make me worse.

Not because there’s anything wrong with meditation. Not because she’s lying about what it does for her. But because my nervous system doesn’t work that way. It never has.

When I sit still with stress in my body, the stress doesn’t dissolve. It gets louder. The walls come closer. The restlessness turns into something heavier — not calm, but a kind of trapped feeling that has nothing to do with peace.

What actually regulates me is movement. Jumping. Walking fast through trees. Activation, not stillness. My body doesn’t need to be talked down. It needs to move through.

I’ve known this about myself for a long time. But it took a doctor to give me permission to believe it.

When I was a student, I had terrible headaches. Constant. The kind that eat your days. Everyone had the same advice: relax more. Do less. Stop pushing yourself so hard.

So I tried. I pulled back. I rested. And I felt worse — not just physically, but in every way. Less engaged, less like myself, and the headaches didn’t budge.

Then I sat across from a doctor — an experienced woman who looked me in the eyes and said something no one else had said. She told me about a family member who’d been given the same advice: just slow down. And how that advice had made her miserable, because it went against everything she actually was. The doctor said she saw the same pattern in me.

She said: if you stop your engagement, your activation, you won’t get better. You’ll just be unhappy on top of being in pain. Keep being you. And let’s find the actual cause.

She found it. It was my eyes. Not my lifestyle. Not my ambition. Not the fact that I cared about too many things. My eyes.

Everyone else had been treating the wrong problem — and prescribing a cure that was itself a kind of harm.

I think about this a lot in my work.

Because the people I talk to are often carrying the same wrong prescription. Someone — a coach, a book, an Instagram post, a well-meaning friend — has told them the answer is to do less. Slow down. Simplify. Find stillness.

And for some people, that’s exactly right.

But for others, the problem was never the pace. It was what they were carrying. The wrong things in the wrong pack. And being told to sit down with all of that still on their back doesn’t help. It just makes them feel broken for not finding the stillness restful.

The answer isn’t always less. Sometimes it’s different. Sometimes it’s taking out what doesn’t belong so the walking feels right again.

That doctor didn’t tell me to stop moving. She told me to keep going — and helped me find what was actually wrong.

That’s the work I want to do too.

Not because it doesn’t work. It works. You can deliver it. You know you can. But it isn’t yours. So you adjust it. Refine it. Add something. Take something away. Try a different angle, a different name, a slightly different version of the same thing you’ve been circling for months.

I’ve built inside this.

It never settles. And you think the problem is that you haven’t found the right version yet — that one more round of refinement will land you somewhere that feels true.

That’s not what’s happening.

You haven’t actually chosen.

I didn’t either.

I did the first sensible thing that worked, and then I believed that action would reveal clarity. That if I just kept moving, the right offer would eventually announce itself.

It didn’t.

As long as everything stays possible, nothing becomes payable.

More action isn’t the problem.

You have to decide what this actually is. One offer. That you stop changing and start selling. Not because it’s perfect — but because you chose it.

I asked questions. We started removing things. Not the bad ideas — some of them were genuinely good, which is exactly why they were so hard to let go of. But they were sitting there taking up space, like those USB cables you keep in the drawer because they might connect to something. Except you got rid of that thing two years ago, you just haven’t admitted it yet.

By the end there was one offer. Clear enough to price. Clear enough to actually say out loud when someone asks what you do. She looked at me like I’d done something. I’d done the thing I always do. I just didn’t have a name for it.

Here’s the thing. I built my competence inside corporations. Fifteen years of strategy work in rooms where everything had a name and a slide deck to go with it. Authority came with logos. Or at least a blue suit. You referenced a model when you spoke. You had a diagram when you presented. That was the deal.

Then I left.

And suddenly my thinking stood alone. No logo. No badge. No institution behind me going “yes, what she said.”

Just me.

And for a long time I thought that was the problem — that I was doing something real but couldn’t point to a framework and say *this is what it is.* Because it didn’t look like a framework. It looked like thinking. Like the thing my brain does automatically when someone sits in front of me with too many open tabs and needs help closing most of them.

I’ve been doing this for decades. Just not under the label “coach.” I did it with teams. With peers. With scouts — thirty years of watching sixteen-year-olds figure out how to lead a group through a forest in the rain, which teaches you more about decision-making than most leadership programs, if I’m being honest.

I did it with friends who felt like they were drifting. In their careers, in their businesses, in the space between what they were doing and what they actually wanted.

I did it when I built websites — the technical part was easy for me, but that was never what people needed.

What they needed was someone to sit with them until they could see themselves clearly again, to strip away what wasn’t aligned, to make them feel smart and optimistic again. To strengthen their sense — in their bodies, not just their heads — of being capable people who could trust their own discernment. Underneath all the options they’d piled on top. The website was the surface. The real work was always elimination and alignment.

And then I did it with myself. When illness stripped everything down to what actually mattered. When clarity stopped being something nice to have and became the thing that kept me functional. When “small steps” went from being a concept I vaguely agreed with to being the only way anything got done. At all.

Different rooms. Different decades. Same thing happening every time.

Lay it all out. The whole backpack, emptied onto the table.

Remove what’s not aligned. Not because it’s wrong — but because it’s not connected to anything real anymore. This is the part people resist. Because it means letting go of things that still feel possible. And as long as everything stays possible, nothing becomes payable.

Find the actual decision. There’s always one. And if you listen — to your body, to that slight shift in your own voice — you usually already know what it is. You just haven’t let yourself say it yet.

Commit. To one clear offer, for a defined stretch of time. Long enough that you can’t escape into a shiny new idea the moment it gets uncomfortable.

And then hold. Because deciding isn’t the hard part. Staying decided is.

I didn’t set out to build a framework. I set out to help people think. But when you’ve run the same pattern hundreds of times — in boardrooms and scout camps and hospital waiting rooms and Zoom calls with someone who has seventeen ideas and zero revenue — at some point you have to stop calling it instinct and start calling it what it is.

In rooms where frameworks are currency, unnamed competence sounds like improvisation. And I’ve seen what happens when real thinking sits inside someone else’s structure. How it gets absorbed. Repackaged. Credited elsewhere. For a long time it felt safer to just do the work quietly and let other people name things.

But hiding it doesn’t protect it. Naming it does.

This isn’t borrowed. It’s three decades of pattern recognition, field-tested across corporate strategy, scouting, illness, and now coaching. It’s repeatable. It’s structured. And it’s mine.

If you’re sitting there with more ideas than you know what to do with — not confused, just overloaded — this is the work.

Not because you need more input. You have plenty.

But because at some point, you have to choose what you’re actually willing to stand behind. And then stand there long enough for it to matter.ı

This is what I do with people now. One backpack at a time.

One fire a week. Not more. Not less.

Because life, at that point, had become smaller than I’d planned for. I needed to prove to myself that I could still pursue something.
That I could still show up.

And I needed something that could exist inside that smaller life.
Not despite it. Inside it.

That’s the thing most people skip.
Not the vision, not the ambition.
But the actual size of what you’re willing to do.

We make things too big to carry.
Offers too wide. Ideas still half-open.
Projects that need a better version of us to start them.

And then nothing holds.

But something changes when the thing is small enough.
You come back to it.
You repeat it.
It starts to have a life of its own.

That’s how 52 Fires spread to hundreds of people.
Not because it was impressive.
Because it was possible.

What I noticed: when it’s the right size, the resistance changes texture.
It stops being dread and starts being something you just do.
That shift is quiet.
Most people don’t recognise it as progress.

The same is true for your business.
And yes — it takes courage to leave things behind. Real things. Things you built.
Things that are genuinely you.
That’s exactly why most people don’t.

As long as everything stays possible,
nothing becomes payable.

Small enough to hold.
Clear enough to explain.
Specific enough that someone can say yes.

Not in a big way. In a very specific, slightly embarrassing way. The kind where you realize your own system has been smarter than you for months and you just didn’t listen.

Why I freeze.

Not when things are hard — I know how to do hard. I spent years where getting through a single day was the whole project, and I got through them. Hard is familiar territory. I have good boots for hard.

I freeze when things start to work.

It would be easy to call it fear of success and move on. That’s the kind of explanation that sounds insightful in a podcast and explains absolutely nothing when you’re sitting there at your desk, bingeing DrameWave rather than doing the thing you know how to do.

Because I don’t freeze when there are no clients. I don’t freeze when things are unclear — honestly, I’m pretty good in mess. Give me a pile of tangled everything and I’ll find the thread.

I freeze when someone says yes. When something moves from idea to real. When it actually starts.

That’s a very specific place to freeze. And specific is interesting.

So I did what I always tell my clients to do. I stopped staring at the freeze and started looking at what was behind it.

What I thought I wanted: more clients, more traction, things moving forward. And I do want that. That part is true.

But then I looked at what moving forward has actually meant, in practice, in my body, over the last few years. And the picture was different.

Implementation. Technical builds. Projects where I couldn’t deliver until someone else finished their part. Work where I was responsible for the outcome but not in control of the process. The kind of work that lives in your shoulders and your jaw and somewhere behind your sternum, where you carry things you can’t put down.

Last summer, I looked at that honestly. And I realized: I’m not happy here. This isn’t what I’m good at. What I’m good at — what actually lights me up — is working directly with people. Coaching. Helping someone see what to prioritize. That moment where something tangled becomes clear enough to act on.

So I made the shift. I stopped selling implementation. I went fully into coaching.

But here’s the thing nobody tells you about changing direction.

Your brain gets it immediately. Your brain is delighted. New business cards, new website, new everything. Done.

Your body takes longer.

My body didn’t register coaching as a new direction. It still thinks I’m in the old one.

So when someone says yes now — to coaching, to the thing I actually want to do — my body doesn’t go: oh, this is the good version.

It goes: here we go again.

More dependency. More carrying. More things you can’t control but have to deliver anyway.

And then I freeze. Not before the sale. After.

Which, when I finally saw it, made complete sense. Because from my body’s perspective, nothing changed. A yes is still a yes, and the last hundred yeses led somewhere I didn’t want to be.

And it got worse when I actually did say yes to implementation work again. Even after I’d already decided to leave it. Even knowing it was exactly the thing that drained me. My body basically went: See? I told you. We’re still here.

So the freeze isn’t random. It’s not some character flaw or lack of discipline — I built a campfire every single week for a year. Discipline is really not the issue.

The freeze is recognition. My system recognizing a pattern I already decided to leave, and pulling the brake before I end up back in it.

And honestly? That might be the smartest thing my body does.

So instead of forcing my way through it — which is what every piece of business advice would tell me to do, just push, just do the thing, just be consistent — I’m treating it as information.

If I can’t move forward, it’s not because something is wrong with me. It’s because something in what I’m building still looks, to my body, like the thing I already know doesn’t fit. And my body knows it before my brain catches up. It always does.

So the question changes.

Not: how do I stop freezing?

But: what would this need to look like — in practice, in my calendar, in the actual weight of it — for my body to register that this is different?

I don’t have the full answer yet. But I know this much: as long as what I’m building still feels like the old thing in a new outfit, something in me will keep pulling the brake.

And it should.

So I’m not trying to force movement. I’m trying to build something my whole system can actually say yes to. Not just my brain. All of me.

Someone shows up with five half-built offers, three unfinished ideas, and a website that tries to speak to everyone at once. They’re not tired from working too hard. They’re tired from carrying too much — and none of it is earning its keep.

And usually, somewhere in the first ten minutes, they ask me to help them “figure out” which direction to go.

But that’s not actually what happens.

What happens is: we start making cuts.

Something stays. Something goes. Something gets picked up and carried forward — the thing that’s actually going to get sold. The rest gets set down.

Not because it was bad.

Because you can’t carry everything and still move.

What I believe

I don’t believe more offers create more income. I’ve watched people double their workload and halve their results, because they kept adding instead of choosing.

I believe most businesses are overbuilt. Too many ideas stacked on top of each other, blocking the view.

I believe if you can’t explain what you’re selling in one clear sentence, you’re not ready to sell it yet. And that’s fine. But let’s not pretend otherwise.

I believe decisions matter more than ideas. Ideas are free. Decisions cost something. That’s why they work.

I believe things become clear when your hands move — not when you sit and think harder about it. The next small thing is always enough.

I believe rest is a necessity, not a flaw in your ambition.

I believe you are completely capable. And also that it’s human to need support. Those two things have always been true at the same time.

I believe avoiding a choice is still a choice. It just makes the decision for you, quietly, while you’re looking the other way.

I believe your backpack belongs to you. I can show you how to pack it, but the walking will always be yours.

What I don’t believe

I don’t believe in adding before removing. If the foundation is cluttered, building more on top just makes it wobble faster.

I don’t believe in building for “later.” Later is where half-finished offers go to die.

I don’t believe in keeping all your options open indefinitely. As long as everything stays possible, nothing becomes payable.

I don’t believe in performing clarity you don’t actually have. That’s just exhausting — for you and for the people trying to buy from you.

I don’t believe hustle fixes structure.

You can’t outrun a mess.

You have to stop and sort it.

I don’t believe coaching means softening the truth until it’s comfortable enough to ignore.

What the work actually is

Fitting things. Adding things. Removing things. And standing the consequences.

That’s closer to engineering.

Or field leadership.

Not coaching fluff.

We look at what’s actually there. Not what you wish was there, not what you planned two years ago, not what sounds good on a sales page.

What’s actually in the backpack right now.

And then we choose.

She was tired of the hustle culture where everything should be fast and everything should be done tomorrow, or today, or probably yesterday.

So she had started to build her own thing in a very slow way.

And five years can seem like a very long time in the future.

But the most interesting thing I learned was that when she realized she had a long-term goal, she was actually able to do much more in a much shorter time.

And that’s the thing.

At the end, I feel that we all should acknowledge that things can actually take a shorter time than we think when we accept that they will take time.

That was the same thing I explored during my illness.

When I was so ill that I had to move into a wheelchair, I had no choice but to slow down.

And when I accepted that I needed help, I needed aid, I needed support from someone else, I actually moved into a position where I accepted where I was.

And when you accept where you are, it’s actually easier to move on, to have progress.

Because then you are in control of your own future. You stop negotiating with reality. You stop pretending you are somewhere else.

You start working from where you actually stand.

And something shifts there.

Not loudly. Not dramatically. But steadily. Because once you stop trying to rush time, you start using it.

And when you start using it, things move.

Often faster than they did when you were trying to force them.

Not because you pushed harder.

But because you stopped pushing in the wrong direction. And that might be the part we don’t talk about enough. That accepting the pace is not the same as giving up.

It’s what makes real progress possible.

The tension

The unnamed thing

At some point I realized I wasn’t lacking structure. I was lacking a name.

In rooms where frameworks are currency, unnamed competence sounds like improvisation. But this was never improvisation. It was a pattern — one I’d run hundreds of times across wildly different contexts. And repeatable patterns deserve structure.

My work draws from three streams:

Corporate systems thinking — fifteen years of strategy work, building platforms, untangling complexity that looked impressive but wasn’t actually functional.

Scout leadership and learning by doing — thirty years of watching people grow when you give them real responsibility and stay close enough to guide without controlling.

Rebuilding after illness — where every decision carried real consequences, where I learned that clarity isn’t a luxury, it’s survival, and where small steps stopped being philosophy and became the only way anything got done at all.

Across all three, the lesson was the same: Complexity is seductive. Clarity requires elimination. And commitment is what creates stability.

The structure

Over time, those streams converged into something I can actually describe:

Lay everything on the table. All the offers, ideas, inputs, and unfinished threads — the whole backpack, emptied out.

Eliminate what’s not aligned. Not because it’s wrong, but because it’s taking up space. Like untangling the USB cables in your drawer and finally tossing the ones that don’t connect to anything you own anymore.

Identify the real decision. There’s always one. And if you listen — to your body, to the slight shift in your voice — you usually already know what it is.

Commit to one clear offer for a defined cycle. Long enough that you can’t escape into a new idea the moment it gets uncomfortable.

Hold the line until revenue and identity stabilize. Because clarity isn’t just about deciding — it’s about staying decided long enough for it to actually work.

It’s simple. It’s not easy. And it works.

Why I’m naming it now

There was a part of me that hesitated to put words around this.

I’ve seen what happens when powerful thinking sits inside someone else’s structure — how unnamed work gets absorbed, repackaged, credited elsewhere. For a long time, it felt safer to just do the work quietly, to let others name things while I was the one who actually made them function.

But hiding it doesn’t protect it. Naming it does.

This isn’t a borrowed framework. It’s three decades of leadership, systems thinking, and pattern recognition — field-tested across corporate strategy, scouting, illness, and now coaching. It’s repeatable. And it’s mine.

The scale trap

Most people in the online business world assume the next step is scale.

Better funnels.

More automation.

A course.

A membership.

A content machine.

But scaling something unclear only creates a bigger mess.

Before any of that matters, a business needs something much simpler: proof.

Clients.

Cash.

Real people paying for real work.

And that rarely comes from building more infrastructure. It usually comes from something much less glamorous: conversations.

Talking to people who already know you.

Explaining what you actually help with.

Listening carefully to what they respond to.

Where the weight shows up

But that is exactly where the heavy backpack starts showing up.

Because when your business contains too many offers, ideas, and half-built things, even a simple conversation becomes difficult.

Someone asks what you do.

And instead of a clear answer, they get a small tour through the contents of your backpack.

“Well… I do coaching, and I also have a course idea, and I might launch a group program soon, and I’m thinking about a membership, and I also help people with…”

By the time the explanation ends, the moment has usually passed.

It’s not a knowledge problem

The problem is rarely lack of knowledge.

It’s weight.

And when the backpack is heavy, everything feels harder than it needs to be.

Selling becomes harder.

Explaining your work becomes harder.

Even deciding what to focus on becomes harder.

From a distance this often looks like a marketing problem.

But structurally it’s something else.

Too many disconnected parts pulling the business in different directions. Too many offers competing for attention. Too many moving pieces that don’t reinforce each other.

What unpacking actually looks like

Last month a client came to me with four different offers, two audience segments, and no consistent income.

In the first session we didn’t design anything new.

We simply laid everything out on the table and named what was actually in the backpack.

By the end of the conversation she realized that three of those offers were really the same thing wearing different clothes.

The real work was not adding something new.

It was removing what didn’t belong.

Starting with less

Most of the work I do with clients starts exactly there.

Opening the backpack.

Taking everything out.

Looking carefully at what is useful, what is optional, and what has simply been carried for too long.

Usually the answer becomes surprisingly simple.

One clear offer that fits the person carrying it and the people they want to help.

And once that offer starts bringing in clients consistently, something interesting happens.

Conversations become easier.

People understand what you do faster.

And growth starts to come from clarity rather than complexity.

But that only happens once the backpack fits.

So before thinking about funnels, scaling, or automation, try a different question.

If you had to walk ten kilometers tomorrow with your current business backpack,

what would you leave behind?

They believe they need to be everywhere. Posting constantly. Showing up on every platform. Producing endless content.

But most of the time that isn’t the real problem.

The real problem is simpler: people cannot clearly explain the value they create. They can describe what they do. But they struggle to name what people actually get.

And if that part is unclear, two things quickly become difficult: selling becomes hard, and buying becomes even harder.

The backpack

Over the years I started noticing the same pattern again and again. Competent people. Skilled people. People who had helped clients for years.

But when I asked them a simple question, they got stuck.

What are people really buying from you?

I started thinking of it as a backpack problem.

Most professionals walk around carrying things that were never really theirs. Advice from mentors. Frameworks from courses. Strategies copied from social media. Expectations from the market.

Some of it useful. Much of it just noise — sitting in the backpack, taking up space, making the whole thing heavier than it needs to be.

And when the backpack is too full of other people’s things, it becomes hard to see what actually belongs to you.

What strengths are consistently yours? What change do your clients reliably experience? What do people walk away with that they didn’t have before?

Before any of that becomes clear, the backpack has to be emptied. Everything on the table. Then you look at what’s actually yours — and only then do you start packing again. This time intentionally.

The difference between activity and impact

Emptying the backpack almost always reveals the same thing: most people have been describing their activities instead of their impact.

Activities sound like this:

“I offer coaching.” “I run workshops.” “I do consulting.”

Impact answers a different question:

What becomes possible for someone after working with you that was not possible before?

When that answer becomes clear, something interesting happens. The offer becomes easier to explain. The right clients recognize themselves faster. Pricing becomes easier to justify. The whole business structure becomes simpler.

But there’s something even more concrete on the other side of that clarity.

You end up with one offer you can actually sell. Not a menu. Not a collection of services. One clear thing that names the real value you create — and attracts the people who need exactly that.

That is what clarity actually produces.

A simple test

If you are building something of your own, here is one question worth sitting with:

When someone finishes working with me, what is different in their world that was not possible before?

Not what you did. What changed.

If that answer is still difficult to name, your backpack might still be carrying things that were never really yours.

And you probably don’t need more visibility.

You need one clear offer you can actually sell.
