I use nature to work on myself, to get on with my life. I know it’s about making the best of what you still have. I’ve had days where getting up, getting myself to the toilet and getting dressed was the whole day’s work. Managing something small, like a coffee on my doorstep, doing it steadily, over time actually adds up to something revolutionary.
Now I’m ridiculously grateful when I can walk along a forest trail and feel the fresh air and smell the earth and the spruce needles. The freedom of riding my bike fast and getting tired. And the quiet when we gather around a campfire.
I know, and I’ve seen it so many times in my own life and when I’ve guided other people, how much those small steps matter. How much it matters to celebrate what I manage to do. How much it matters to use the space and the challenges nature gives us. Friendship by sharing cacao at the fire, cooking together, learning to use an axe. Just balancing over stones, and know what to do with wet socks. Admiring the beauty in a flower and grass in the wind.
And this why I am giving you 15 tiny reasons to get out in nature in October.
10 minutes outside for 15 days.
Not hiking. Not getting somewhere impressive. Not suddenly becoming a person who spends every weekend in the mountains.
Just getting outside.
For 15 days I will send you one small mission every day. Most of them take about 10 minutes. You can do them close to home, in a park, on your street, (even on Manhattan,) somewhere outside your office, wherever you are.
Because I think most of us already know that we feel better outside. The problem is remembering it when we are sitting on the sofa, scrolling, tired, busy, and not really wanting to put our shoes on
.
So this is a way of getting a little push. Something to go out and do.
And maybe after 15 days you notice something has changed.
You have been outside more. You notice more. You remember the feeling faster. And maybe getting out the door has become a little easier.
If you subscribe here, you’ll get the Tiny Nature Missions when it starts in October.
Everybody does better outside. Come see if that includes you.
